Background of our founder
Our founder, Zach McGrew is a firefighter paramedic with the San Jose Fire Department. He spent his first years at firehouse 4, which is constantly one of the busiest firehouses in the department running about 5,000 calls a year. As the “rookie” of the four person crew, he was assigned to be the “house manager”. Being the house manager required him to keep an inventory of all day-to-day station supplies. These supplies ranged from all wifi and entertainment services, dry goods and condiments all the way to laundry and soap. This responsibility also included gathering money from the other shifts totalling 12 people. He started with the bank account being given to him with $8 in it and no way to access the account since it was in a retired firefighter’s name. Despite working on average 72 hours at Engine 4, Zach had a difficult time keeping track of supplies, money, and most importantly retaining the trust with his crew members. One day while having to sit down with a printed out excel sheet and the roster of the last month trying to find the people that haven’t paid their dues while also locating that the station had 12 mustard bottles while not having any more salt, he knew he had to fix the root problem.

3 Step Solution to everyday fire station life
Makes station inventory efficient & easy
Smart tracking for goods, food, and shared services keeps the firehouse running smoothly. Firestock replaces whiteboards and guesswork with a clean, tap‑to‑update system that lets crews mark items low, out, or restocked in seconds. Add supplies by type, photo, or voice, making inventory simple and seamless. Usage patterns update in real time so crews see shortages before they happen, and house managers can stay informed even when off‑site. The app also tracks who has paid, what’s been purchased, and who still owes, creating transparency and eliminating the need to chase people down or explain the state of the “kitty.”
Chow time made simple
Shop with firefighter owned businesses
A shared firefighter recipe hub keeps every crew cooking from the same playbook while syncing with real‑time station inventory. Firefighters can upload their go‑to meals, and each recipe automatically checks against what’s currently in stock. The app highlights ingredients you already have, flags what’s missing, and builds a live grocery list so crews know exactly what to buy. The result is fewer last‑minute store runs, less wasted food, and a stronger firehouse culture built around shared meals.
A storefront for firefighter‑owned businesses gives crews an easy way to support their own community. Firestock creates a built‑in marketplace that showcases firefighter‑owned brands and lets stations buy directly from the people who understand the job. Whether a crew needs coffee, custom leather gear, apparel, tools, or handmade goods, the marketplace keeps money circulating within the fire service and helps firefighters support firefighters.
